PSR-800 DIGITAL with DMR and Whistler Upgrade.new Whistler Firmware Upgrade which includes DMR as well as VHF,UHF,Aircraft and many others What does the Whistler Firmware Upgrade mean: 1. With the Whistler Firmware, you will receive upgrades as they are released.
USED** GRECOM PSR-800 EZ Scan Digital P25 Scanner with ZIP code search! Excellent condition, Firmware updated, Ready to use! This is the famous. The PSR-800 has a modifiable scan list using the powerful and easy PC software application which also provides enhancements and updates as they become available to keep the scanner's CPU firmware and library up to date.
Your Scanner will receive DMR which is being used in Ham Radio as well as Public Service such as Police, Fire, State Police and many others. My small town is changing to DMR before the end of the year and we have several new Ham Repeaters in our area.
The Whistler Firmware works great and the programming software is Free and is downloaded from Whistler. Side by side with the new Whistlers TRX-1 this scanner receives equally good and has in my opinion better quality audio.
This radio is in great cosmetic and operating condition.I purchased it new and have used it very little. I recently sent it to Whistler and had the DMR and Firmware upgraded and purchased the soft protective case (see pictures) which protects the scanner and gives you a good grip when holding the scanner. The scanner has had a screen protector since day one and I will leave it on the display. Included is the programming/charging cable, antenna, CD and original box plus the Optional Rubber Protective case. I paid $90.00 plus shipping or the upgrade in June. Price is 335.00 Firm Shipped to US lower 48 I accept PayPal, Cashier's Checks and Postal Money Orders. Please email me at or call my cell at 918-801-8070 for any additional.I am 71 and take great care of my radios and this scanner performs and looks very good.73s.
I don't know if anyone here at SNE has been following the pertinent threads over at Radio Reference but it is now possible to add DMR receive capability to the Radio Shack PRO-18 and PRO-668 and the GRE PSR-800. In the case of the PRO-18 it apparently also adds P25 Phase II capability which it never had. If you are interested in updating any of these scanners for DMR receive (or adding Phase II to a PRO-18) you should give both of the following RR threads a very thorough read: 1. The update procedure involves loading the CPU and DSP firmware versions that were publicly released for the Whistler WS1080 scanner into the other scanner models and that then allows DMR receive capability. Apparently the hardware of all 4 of these scanners is VERY similar (although not identical) and that allows this 'sharing' of some versions of the CPU and DSP firmware to work.
I have personally updated my PRO-668 scanner to have DMR receive capability and it is working fine on both conventional DMR and DMR/MotoTRBO trunking. The winning combination at this point for the PRO-668 appears to be Whistler WS1080 CPU Firmware version 3.8 along with Whistler WS1080 DSP Firmware version 3.0. Whistler WS1080 CPU Firmware versions of 3.9 and higher are reported to not work for DMR receive in the other 3 scanners at this time. For those concerned about possibly 'bricking' their scanner with this procedure, you really have nothing to worry about. You can always revert back to the 'stock' CPU and DSP firmware versions for your particular scanner model at any time. I personally 'converted' my PRO-668 into a WS1080 and then back to a PRO-668 multiple times when I was trying out the various Whistler CPU and DSP version combinations to see what would work in my PRO-668. One last note if you do update your PRO-18, PRO-668 or PSR-800 you will then have to use the Whistler EZ Scan PC program for the WS1080 to program your radio.
After loading the Whistler WS1080 firmware into your radio it 'thinks' it is now a Whistler WS1080. You can download the Whistler EZ Scan software for the WS1080 here. I don't have any of the scanners involved, so it's academic for me, but it's interesting watching the progression.
The hobby is lucky to have Eric, and we're especially lucky to have him here at Scan-NE. I totally agree with you. Without Eric's hard work and persistence with the necessary coding that was involved, the DMR update for the 3 scanners involved would not have been possible. Also Gary MUCH KUDOS to you for all of your hard work helping with building and updating the Industrial Communications MotoTRBO wiki.
Now that I finally have a DMR-capable scanner I can truly appreciate the wealth of information that is posted there. I was able to copy and paste the known talkgroup ID alpha tags from the wiki into my PRO-668's software program and they now appear when that talkgroup comes up (display alternates between talkgroup ID number and the alpha tag). That's much better than having just the talkgroup number come up! You're welcome. Much of the work on the MotoTrbo systems, at least for me was a mixture of curiosity and the hope that someday Uniden, Whilster, or maybe someone else, would come out with a scanner with DMR and MotoTrbo capabilities. Fortunately, both major manufacturers did. There is still some work to be done to get the user details for ICE and Comtronics, but most of that has been completed.
I've now moved on to NXDN for both the challenge of figuring out how the systems are configured and the practical knowledge of who is using what. Again, I owe a debt of gratitude to Eric for his guidance on that technology. And of course the people behind DSDPlus, without whom we'd have nothing to work with. There isn't as much NXDN in this area, but there is one pretty active trunked network. Trp wrote:I totally agree with you. Fortunately I put in a way to use earlier firmware. CPU 3.8 is not too bad.
Here is an additional thread about the PSR-800. There is also an active thread in the Pro-668 Facebook group. Since I do not own a Pro-18, I added it without testing. Other people tried it and it worked. I did not realize they would gain Phase 2 as well as DMR. Wow, I did not realize my utility would become so popular. I mainly wanted to create a program using Qt for my own use.
I am glad others find it useful and can use it. Just an FYI for anyone who owns the PRO-18, PRO-668 or PSR-800, Eric (SNE member wb1hbu posted above) has updated his GREFwTool program to a newer version (version 0.2.0.3). With that updated tool you can now load the very latest version of the Whistler WS1080 CPU firmware (version 4.5 at this time) into your scanner and retain full P25 and DMR receive capabilities. With this updated program you can now essentially 'convert/update' any of the 3 scanners mentioned above into a fully-updated/fully-operational Whistler WS1080. Thank you Eric for all of your hard work and diligence with this project!
It is clearly evident now that the hardware of the 3 scanners involved was being limited by the 'official' releases of the firmware that had previously been released by the respective scanner manufacturers/sellers. Link to Eric's post at Radio Reference that explains his new GREFwTool program release and also contains the download link.
